Latvala leads after Hirvonen crash

Ford driver Jari-Matti Latvala leads his home WRC rally in Finland by nine seconds heading into the final day.

Rally New Zealand champion Jari-Matti Latvala is the leader at the end of day one of Rally Finland after his team-mate Mikko Hirvonen crashed out.

Finn Latvala leads Norway's Petter Solberg by 9.1 seconds, with Sébastien Ogier from France in third in the works Citroen. Latvala's teammate Hirvonen crashed out in a massive accident, rolling six times while in the lead during the morning.

Reigning world champion Sebastien Loeb lost time sweeping the roads clean of loose gravel and is in fourth place, 32 seconds adrift of Latvala's Ford.

New Zealand's Hayden Paddon sits in third in the PWRC class in his first attempt in Finland, just behind second place.
