The copies of 'Uncharted 4' that recently appeared on eBay are stolen, says Sony.

Posting on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Computer Entertainment president Shuhei Yoshida said that "a number of copies" of Naughty Dog's adventure title "were stolen in transit."

A company spokesperson told MCV that "some contents from a lorry [...] including a quantity of the much anticipated 'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End', was stolen in the UK, during a violent assault."

The early copies initially appeared to be merely the result of retailers jumping the gun, but Sony confirmed that it "[has] yet to ship any stock of 'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End' to retail."

Yoshida reiterated the "potential for spoilers to be posted by people with access to stolen copies of the game," urging fans to stay vigilant and to, obviously, not purchase stolen copies of the game.

Sony is working with police on the "ongoing criminal investigation."

'Uncharted 4' launches on May 10th for PlayStation 4.
