âGet your hands of me, you, damn, dirty Ape!â â Now letâs face it, majority of you all familiarize yourself with âPlanet of the Apesâ either from the hilariously bad, Original or you are simply like me, and your familiarity is drawn from watching old re-runs of âThe Simpsonsâ as Troy McClure uproariously leads us into the prodigious âDr Zaiusâ. (Now that song is stuck in your head, youâre welcome) Either way the âPlanet of the Apesâ saga continues on throughout the generations as a large âWhat Ifâ posed to the audience in, âCould Monkeyâs really take over the world?â Well, I guess we are about to find out⌠Again.
The title gives away the plot line, as it is the âDawningâ of the Planet of the Apes Uprising. We have already had the âRiseâ and now we are awaiting the follow up. The last piece in the Ape puzzle left me bored and unentertained and I had zero to little hopes about this film, with the trailers even looking like a yawn-fest from the get go. However, if you want someone to bring life to a CGI Ape, then you look no further than âAndy Serkisâ. Now Serkis is an actor whom has really progressed his skills through animated acting, we have seen him as Peter Jacksonâs humanity puppet playing both Golem from âLord of The Ringsâ and as The King of the jungle himself in âKing Kongâ. Serkisâ portrayal of âCaesarâ is what holds the entire film together and actually brings it to life, drawing at least some interest to the film itself, however, it is simply not enough.
âDawn of the Planet of the Apesâ simply put, is a 45 minute movie over extended into 2 and a bit hours. At times you find yourself struggling to pay attention as over exaggerated dialogue floods the screen while you try not to bury your face into the overly salted popcorn that then proceeds to burn your eyes, putting them out of their misery. So if you want to see a bunch a monkeyâs throwing poop at each other, go to the Zoo or simply watch the Government attempt to reason with one another. But if you are curious for the next piece in the puzzle, by all means cure your curiosity and see the film, but I would wait till it comes on DVD or NETFLIX.
Overall I give this film a 2/10 and a Salute to Dr Zaius
