Put away your box of paracetamol and head down to the local for a couple of pints if you find yourself in any sort of pain - it'll be more effective.

This may not come as a surprise to some people as alcohol is known to having numbing properties that stretch further than just physical problems, but it now has been confirmed in a university.

The University of Greenwich found that upping your blood alcohol percentage to 0.08% increases ones pain threshold by a small amount.

"Findings suggest that alcohol is an effective analgesic that delivers clinically relevant reductions in ratings of pain intensity, which could explain alcohol misuse in those with persistent pain, despite its potential consequences for long-term health."

They found that it is more effective in relieving pain than paracetamol, and is more on-par with opioid drugs like codeine.

At the end of the day, their research suggests that beer may be a better pain killer than other options, but they wouldn't suggest it as a long-term alternative as the repercussions will cause even more pain.

Cheers to that.
