England has dominated a rain affected day one of the third Ashes test at Edgbaston.

James Anderson ripped through the Australian batting lineup taking 6 for 47 to help dismiss the tourists for 136 in just 36.4 overs.

Chris Rogers top scored with 52 after Michael Clarke had won the toss and batted.

England reached 133 for 3 in reply with rain ending play with 22 overs lost.

BBC commentator Geoff Boycott said Australia's shot themselves in the foot.

"When you win the toss and bat first you have to do that well. It's no good batting if you bat badly, and by batting badly they've made life difficult for themselves and they've made a hole that I don't think they'll get out."

Rogers admits they were outplayed.

"They bowled very well and particularly under the conditions. There was a lot of cloud cover. It was probably doing a bit more than we expected and also I don't think we batted that well."

Ian Bell top scored with 53 with England three runs behind with seven first innings wickets in hand.
