Otago has overturned a 22-6 halftime deficit to post a thrilling 34-27 ITM Cup win over Taranaki in New Plymouth.

The visitors rallied back for four second half tries, with halfback Kaide Whiting scoring the winner right on full time, after analysis from the television match official.

It's Otago's first win over reigning champions Taranaki in seven years.

Taranaki remains winless through seven matches.

Earlier Canterbury beat Auckland 27-21, ending a four year winning streak at Eden Park.
