Henare Wells will have to wait to make his NRL debut for the New Zealand Warriors.

The former Roosters fullback injured his hamstring playing in the final of the Auckland Nines in the weekend.

While he'll be behind Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in the pecking order, Wells impressed during the tournament.

Coach Andrew McFadden says Wells will have a stint on the sidelines for "between six and eight weeks".

"He's done some fair damage there. He was in full flight when it happened."

Issac Luke is a possibility to make his debut in pre-season action against the Titans in Whangarei this weekend.
