The four-piece – best known for their dynamic live gigs and grungy, guitar-driven sound – is back and better than ever, with a string of new music on the way. With a new bassist and producer among the ranks, Unclean is a high-octane, headbanging anthem that marks an exciting new chapter in the band’s musical journey. Unclean was recorded, mixed, and produced by Troy McKubre (The Gentle Men, Solstate) at Old North Studios, an Auckland recording suite owned and operated by McKubre and New Zealand singer-songwriter Boh Runga. It was then mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Ted Jensen (Sterling Sound), who has worked on iconic albums from The Eagles’ Hotel California to The Rolling Stones’ Some Girls and Green Day’s American Idiot.  “Working with Troy at Old North Studios was such a pleasure. They’ve built a really great space, not only to record in but just to hang out in. The drum room is something special, and we’re stoked to have captured what we did there,” says Silcrow. “Unclean is about capturing that feeling of ‘90s rock and bringing that into the modern era. Lyrically, it's about someone losing their way and making some questionable decisions,” explains vocalist Lorenzo Hazelwood. “The inspiration for Unclean came from grunge bands like Stone Temple Pilots. We wanted something a little more upbeat and drivey.” The track starts off with a tight and powerful drum fill that leads into a punky, sludgy guitar riff. The band keeps it simple and controlled during the verse, expanding on that in the pre-chorus before launching into a massive chorus section. Fans of Silcrow will be glad to know it features a ripping guitar solo and the screaming vocals they have come to know and love. Consisting of members Lorenzo Hazelwood (vocals), Oscar Miller (guitar), Carl Stieller (drums), and recent addition Louis Simpson (bass), Silcrow has been kicking around the New Zealand rock scene since 2018. With their electric mix of hard rock and melodic passages, Silcrow has amassed a cult following in Auckland and beyond.
