Fat Freddy’s Drop's Based On A True Story 21st Anniversary Tour 2026!

Doing it for the love of music, Fat Freddy’s Drop return in 2026 to perform their ground-breaking debut Based On A True Story.

The 51-date tour across Australia, Aotearoa, Europe and the UK marks the band’s first shows since the passing of founding member Chris ‘MU’ Faiumu — a tour they’ve chosen to continue in his honour.

Lead singer Dallas Tamaira says, “It’s important for us to honour the intentions we had with MU, and playing this album live is part of that.”

Originally released in 2005, Based On A True Story became Aotearoa’s longest-charting album with 111 weeks in the Top 40, winning eight NZ Music Awards and Giles Peterson’s Worldwide Music Award.

“This album was the springboard for our journey,” says saxophonist Scott Towers. “We want to pay tribute to the music, to MU, and to our fans who’ve supported us through everything.”
