Steve Albini, Nirvana and Pixies Producer Has Passed Away

Steve Albini, the world-renowned producer and engineer who worked with Nirvana, Pixies and many others, has passed away at age 61. The news was confirmed by the staff at Albini's Chicago-based studio, Electronic Audio.

In addition to his production work over the decades, Albini led the bands Big Black, Shellac and Rapeman. Shellac were scheduled to release their first album in 10 years, To All Trains, on May 17.

Albini became one of the most sought-after engineers in the music industry and found acclaim for his work on albums such as Nirvana’s In Utero, and the Pixies Surfer Rosa.

He also worked with the Breeders, PJ Harvey and former Led Zeppelin members Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.

Outside of music, he was also an ace at poker, having won 2 World Series of Poker bracelets and hundreds of thousands of dollars
