Subaru Motorsports USA and Hoonigan have dropped the newest instalment in the internet-melting Gymkhana series: “Aussie Shred.” Filmed across Australia - the country that literally coined the term hoon - Travis Pastrana’s third Gymkhana outing pushes the franchise to its absolute limits, delivering the biggest jumps, closest calls and most unhinged stunts yet.

Pastrana tears through the Outback, Sydney Harbour and the legendary Mount Panorama in Bathurst at the wheel of the Subaru “Brataroo” 9500 Turbo, a wildly re-imagined 1978 Subaru BRAT built specifically for Gymkhana mayhem. Developed by Subaru of America and technical partner Vermont SportsCar, the Brataroo is engineered to corner, drift and take flight far beyond what previous Gymkhana machines could handle. Its rallycross-bred setup includes cutting-edge active aero and a fire-spitting 2.0-liter turbo boxer engine punching out 670 horsepower, 680 lb-ft of torque and revs north of 9,500 RPM.

“The Brataroo is hands down the craziest Gymkhana car we’ve ever built,” Pastrana says. “Every part of it was designed to survive the abuse we threw at it, whether it was hanging two wheels off a pier, jumping 160 feet across a 10-story canyon gap over a road train, skimming a lake, or scaring myself at pretty much every turn.”

True to Gymkhana tradition, Aussie Shred is packed with appearances from local motorsport legends: two-time Dakar Rally champ Toby Price, former Subaru WRC driver Chris “Atko” Atkinson, Nitro Circus BMX stars Ryan Williams, Jaie Toohey and Will Brown, plus a lineup of V8 Supercars drivers who line up for a rolling drag race on Mount Panorama’s Conrod Straight. Moog and Marty from Mighty Car Mods, the last of the V8 Interceptors and the Mad Hueys also join the chaos—capping it off with the most sacred of Aussie rites, the shoey.
