Weezer have taken to social media to reveal new music is on the way, with a single release locked in for this Thursday.
In the post, the band shared a short snippet teasing what’s to come. The clip features a brief throwback to the signature riff from Buddy Holly, before transitioning into new material, with frontman Rivers Cuomo singing the lyrics: “the sun will shine / shine again.”
Those lyrics may already sound familiar to fans. The line was previously alluded to several weeks earlier when the band celebrated their 30th anniversary, signing off a post with: “Weezer will shine again soon, way more =w= is coming in 2026.”
Cuomo has also been keeping fans updated via Discord, where he has shared details about Weezer’s upcoming 20th studio album. He suggests the project will continue the band’s tradition of self-titled “colour” albums, a series that has become a defining part of their catalogue.
It’s not just music keeping the band busy. During an appearance at Coachella last year, Cuomo revealed Weezer have also been working on their own film. Speaking on stage, he said: “We've been busy making the Weezer movie back in LA the last couple of weeks. But when Coachella called us up and said, ‘Hey Weezer, could you guys make it out for a surprise appearance?’ We were like, ‘Heck yeah!’ It feels so good to be here with you guys and let out these emotions.”
With a new single just a day away, a milestone album in the works, and even a film project on the horizon, it’s clear Weezer aren’t slowing down anytime soon - and if their message is anything to go by, they’re ready to shine again.
