There’s a difference between returning and truly coming back. Tadpole have already proven their comeback is real. Now they take the next step with Falling Into You, their powerful new single released May 15.

Driven by Chris Yong’s powerful guitar work, Lauren Marshall’s uncompromising vocal assault, electronic tension and the unmistakable weight that has always sat at the heart of the band, Falling Into You feels bold, immediate and fully alive. It’s a track about the moment love arrives without warning - disorienting, consuming and impossible to control. A sudden descent into something deeper than expected.

The song began in a writing session between Chris Yong and Dean Lawton, sparked by a drum-and-bass inspired beat and improvised guitar riffs that quickly found momentum. From there, the track took shape organically, with Lauren Marshall developing lyrics and melodies, Chris helping refine the final form, and DJ Kritikl adding his signature textures and scratches to complete the sound.

Most of the single was recorded at Old North Studios in Kumeū, the studio of Boh Runga and Troy McKubre, with additional bass tracked in Greymouth while the band were on the road for the Hokitika Wildfoods Festival - a fitting reflection of a band creating wherever momentum takes them.

Mixed by Tiki Taane, with vocals produced by Boh Runga and mastering by Chris Chetland, Falling Into You blends Tadpole’s trademark power with fresh energy and purpose.

Tiki Taane says, “FALLING INTO YOU was a blast to mix and a real pleasure to work on with the Tadpole team. I loved riding that balance of raw energy, where the band is hissing and the vocals are slaying. Stoked to see Tadpole back and firing on all cylinders.

Formed in Auckland in 1994, Tadpole helped define an era of New Zealand rock through landmark releases The Buddhafinger and The Medusa. Their 2024 return showed they were far more than a legacy act. With Lauren Marshall joining original members Chris Yong, Dean Lawton and DJ Kritikl, the band found a renewed identity  sharper, heavier and more focused than ever.

Recent performances alongside Good Charlotte, Highly Suspect and Yellowcard at the Auckland Domain, plus standout sets at the Hokitika Wildfoods Festival and Go Live Festival, have confirmed their live firepower remains fully intact.

Falling Into You is the sound of a band with unfinished business and real momentum. Tadpole aren’t revisiting the past - they’re building what comes next.
