‘This Love it Holds’, the new single from The Leers, is a strong statement of intent from a band who are stepping up from being local heroes to gracing New Zealand’s biggest summer festival line ups. Coming off the back of playing their biggest shows yet, supporting L.A.B on their arena tour in July, The Leers are going from strength to strength.
‘This Love it Holds’ is a visceral ode to dying love, partnered with a raw and energetic rhythm that switches between anger and desire. Taken from their forthcoming EP The Only Way Out Is In out November 20, the single was recorded in Los Angeles at Mad Muse studios last year, home of their U.S. label In-Flight Music Group.
Lead singer Matt Bidois says the gigs with L.A.B were “mental”. “I think the biggest crowd we’d played before was 600 so going from that to 8000 was pretty gnarly…by the end of the set people were really getting into it which was rewarding.”
The band are now a five-piece with the addition of Kiki Rockwell on keys and vocals. Having Kiki on board signals the band’s growth into a new phase where they’re ready to take their career from opening act to headliners.
