Eddie Van Halen's precise cause of death has been revealed, more than two months after his passing on October 6 at age 65.

According to Eddie's death certificate, the guitar legend died following a cerebrovascular event, or a stroke, TMZ reports.

The document also cited pneumonia, a blood disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome and lung cancer as underlying causes. According to Memorial Sloan Kettering, myelodysplastic syndrome can develop as a side-effect of chemotherapy or radiation therapy, especially in older adults.

Skin cancer and irregular heartbeat were listed as "significant conditions."

Eddie, a recovering alcoholic and longtime smoker, was first diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2000. The disease returned this past decade and Eddie battled it for the final years of his life, taking frequent trips to Germany to undergo treatment.

His son Wolfgang Van Halen revealed in a conversation with Howard Stern last month that his father outlived one grim lung cancer prognosis by three years.

Eddie's body was cremated in late-October and one of his final wishes was for his ashes to be scattered into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Malibu.
