Real Groovy has found a new home - and it's not too far from the old one.

The iconic music store at the top of Queen Street is moving in January so the building can be demolished and apartments built.

Its owners confirmed today that Real Groovy had found a new home at 369 Queen Street, just across the road in the former Salvation Army auditorium.

Owner Chris Hart said the new store would open on January 7.

"We had a good run in the old shop, 25 years, and that time saw a huge amount of change. But we're really excited about moving: the new shop is something special.

"I couldn't imagine a better location or space for Real Groovy," he said.

The new store includes two levels: an auditorium on the ground floor, and a basement where vinyl will be stored.

The old location will stay open until January 17 to sell off sale items, before it's demolished to make way for apartments.
