The year is 2020 and Nirvana fans have finally been gifted a brand-new song by the band, well… sort of.
A YouTuber, who goes by the name Funk Turkey on the site, has uploaded his latest installment of artificial intelligence-created music and this time he's taken on Nirvana. Using a coding site to help basically Mad-Lib a song, he then puts the new lyrics to music and ta-da we have an A.I. Nirvana track.
“Using lyrics.rip to scrape the Genius Lyrics Database, I made a Markov Chain write Nirvana lyrics. This is the end result- 'Smother,'” he wrote in the song's description.
In “Smother” the YouTuber sings lyrics like: “I'll wear this gazeless stare and when/ This Friend, you face to prove/ I could eat your heart-shaped box for food.”
The vocals and music are all mixed and mastered by the YouTuber at his house (in his kitchen to be specific). “Vocals are doubled, slightly compressed, and run though an emulated reel-to-reel and tube saturation for a bit of extra warmth and grit,” he explained.
While the lyrics are pretty confusing, fans flooded the comments section with some great takes on the fake Nirvana track — which actually has a pretty catchy chorus.
“I know it’s a Nirvana song, because he mentions meat out of nowhere,” one fan commented while another said, “We need to be honest with ourselves and admit if a band had actually released this song in the 90s we'd love it and saying they don't make music like this anymore it's actually quite good haha.”
This isn't the first time we've heard a song from the YouTuber. Funk Turkey is best known for his viral parody of Billie Eilish's “bad guy” that goes by the name “Dad Guy.” He also recently uploaded an AC/DC song that was created by artificial intelligence titled “Great Balls.”
