The man who co-created some of the greatest and most loved comic book heroes in history has died.

Stan Lee was the man behind the likes of Spider-Man, X-Men, Thor, Iron Man, Black Panther and The Fantastic Four - to name a few.

Lee began in the business in 1939.

According to TMZ, an ambulance was reportedly sent to Lee's home in Hollywood Hills Monday morning (LA time) and he was immediately brought to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he passed away.

Lee had reportedly suffered from multiple illnesses over the past year, including pneumonia and vision problems.

It's rumoured Lee has shot multiple cameos for upcoming Marvel installments before his death.
