New Zealand is ranked in 39th place on the index of the world's most expensive beer.

Lausanne in Switzerland is ranked as the most expensive city to drink a beer in a bar. It's followed closely by Hong Kong and Paris, according to GoEuro's Beer Price Index infographic.

To compile the ranking, Go Euro compared the prices of local and imported draught beers in hotel bars worldwide.

New Zealand sits mid-range in the index, with the average price of a beer costing $8.50 (US$6.05).

The Swiss city of Lausanne offers a pint of cold brew for US$17.60 (NZ$24.80), or you could have one for US$11.08 (NZ$15.60) in Hong Kong.

If Lausanne or Hong Kong isn't within your budget, Kiev in Ukraine is by far the cheapest city in the world to grab a beer from, with a 33cl beer costing just US$2.63 (NZ$3.70) - bargain!
