The Black Caps have battled their way to 232 for 9 at stumps on day two of the second cricket test against Sri Lanka in Hamilton.

Dushmantha Chameera claimed his first five-wicket haul in test cricket, dismissing Neil Wagner for 17 with the last ball of the day.

New Zealand are 60 runs shy of Sri Lanka's first innings score.

Black Caps batsman Martin Guptill says they are lucky to be in this position.

He says they haven't batted the way they would've liked, but they managed to fight back and aren't too far behind the eight ball.

Black Caps bowler Doug Bracewell is unbeaten on 30, with Trent Boult yet to take to the crease.
