BLACKCAPS media staffer Willy Nicholls found himself thrust into the action during the side's warm-up match against Zimbabwe A in Harare today.

Nicholls is travelling with the Black Caps throughout South Africa working as New Zealand Cricket's Digital & Communications Executive and was never expecting to play a part in the on-field action.

However, he earned the surprise call-up and was asked to don the whites and take his place in the field during the final session as some of the New Zealand players were rested.

Making the most of his opportunity, Nicholls was quick to contribute, taking a catch at mid-on to dismiss Tapiwa Mufudza from Ish Sodhi's bowling, for just three runs.

Nicholls is the brother of BLACKCAPS batsman Henry, who hit 52 runs in the first session of the tourist's 259-run victory.

"They were the brother's pants, looked like skydiving pants!" Nicholls told ONE News of his ill-fitting uniform.

After claiming his catch Nicholls raises his arms in celebration and is congratulated by his more illustrious teammates.

The BLACKCAPS now head to Bulawayo for the first of two tests against Zimbabwe, starting Thursday.
