The Hurricanes are firmly standing by Julian Savea as he struggles to overcome fitness and form issues.

The All Blacks winger has been omitted from the 23 to face the Southern Kings in tomorrow's Super Rugby match in Wellington.

Coach Chris Boyd says Savea may have lapsed with his fitness post World Cup, but is determined to get back to his high standards.

"In the month or six weeks post the World Cup, he probably wasn't as disciplined."

"He'd be the first person to say that he hasn't been in vintage form, but it's a long season."

"We have a high expectation of Julian every time he takes the field."

Jason Woodward replaces Savea in the Hurricanes side.
