Another year, another title for Canterbury rugby.

The red and blacks have scooped their eighth title in nine years with a 43-27 win over Tasman in the Mitre 10 Cup Premiership final in Christchurch.

Canterbury lock Dominic Bird said Tasman fought as they expected.

He said they knew they had to keep ticking in the hope it'd go their way in the second half.

Tasman winger James Lowe said they can still hold their heads high after the season they've had.

He said they're a team of liquorice all sorts, with players from all over the place, many of who are battlers.

The win sends coach Scott Robertson off to his new job as head honcho of the Crusaders on a high.

It's Canterbury's eighth title in nine years.
