The Chiefs have become the third New Zealand Super Rugby side into the semi-finals with a commanding 60-21 win over the Stormers in Cape Town.

Fullback Damian McKenzie scored 25 points in the eight tries to three romp, which was capped off by three tries in the final five minutes.

It hasn't all been good news for the New Zealand sides: The Crusaders' season has been emphatically ended 42-25 by a rampant Lions side in Johannesburg.

The home side raced to a 15-nil lead after the same number of minutes and were never headed in the five tries to three win.

Crusaders assistant coach Dave Hewett said they gave away too many penalties to stay in the game.

It also brings an end to the coaching tenure of Hewett and the current Crusaders coaching team led by Todd Blackadder.

The Chiefs will travel back to meet the Hurricanes in Wellington, while the Lions have earned hosting rights to play the Highlanders in Johannesburg.
