A big boost for the Brumbies ahead of their home Super Rugby quarter-final against the Highlanders on Friday night.

Openside flanker David Pocock has been cleared to play, having not turned out since the resumption of the competition after the international break.

Assistant coach Dan McKellar said Pocock will make his return in the knockout match in Canberra.

Pocock fractured his eye socket in the Wallabies' series whitewash against England and was told he would need six weeks to recover.

He's been wearing specially designed headgear for the past week in a bid to get him fit for the playoffs.

Meanwhile, All Black Liam Squire and co-captain Shane Christie return to the Highlanders line-up on Friday night.

Squire will start at number eight, meaning Luke Whitelock moves to lock, while Christie starts at openside for James Lentjes after missing the last two matches through illness.
