The NZ Herald is reporting Melbourne United has secured the prized signature of New Zealand Breakers superstar Cedric Jackson.

News Corp can reveal Melbourne has won the bidding war for the point guard, the 2013 league MVP and three-time NBL champion with the Breakers.

Melbourne pipped a number of NBL clubs, including New Zealand, to secure the American on a two-year deal.

"It is going to be a big change, but I'm ready for it," Jackson, 30, said from the US.

"I'm looking forward to the adjustment and I think it'll be a good one.

"I loved it (in New Zealand) and it is awfully bittersweet, but that is how the business works and I am positive about the decision I'm making."

It is United's first big signing of the off-season. The club is still talking to its reigning MVP Chris Goulding and remains hopeful of retaining him.
