Lewis Hamilton will start on pole for the Australian Grand Prix, but new qualifying rules have been a big failure in Melbourne.

There were no cars left on track for the final three minutes of qualifying, with the slowest drivers knocked out in rolling eliminations every 90 seconds.

Teams and drivers have called for immediate change to the new system.

Hamilton has broken Michael Schumacher's lap record set back in 2004, with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg second quickest in practice.
