The Highlanders have taken out a rugged battle with the Brumbies in Canberra.

Tries to Waisake Naholo and Liam Squire gave the Highlanders a 15-9 lead late in the second half.

It was strange scenes at the end of the game when the referee seemed to forget the game was meant to end...

An explosive start for the visitors left the Brumbies looking scratchy, but only resulted in a penalty.

The Brumbies then kicked their way back into the lead.

However, a yellow card to Matt Toomua in the course of the Highlanders' first try left them struggling for momentum.

The result means that there are no Australian teams left in the competition, and all four New Zealand playoff contenders are still in with a chance.
