A promotion for Ryan Hoffman.

Hoffman's been named the new Warriors captain, taking over from fan favourite Simon Mannering for this NRL season.

He said it's a huge honour and a big moment in his career.

"We're a one team nation, and it's something that I always thought I could do, I always thought I could be the captain of an NRL club but never thought I would due to circumstance."

It comes ahead of another NRL season where the Warriors are being touted for success.

It's mainly due to the recruiting of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Issac Luke to partner Shaun Johnson, but Hoffman said if they're to live up to their hype, they need help like in other teams he's played for.

"They've always had a strong 1, 7 and 9, and we've got an international one. Look they're three great players but one thing I've noticed from other teams is that we've had some great players around them, especially in the forwards."

Ryan Hoffman said he's played under Cameron Smith and Simon Mannering and has learned a lot about captaincy from them.
