The Hurricanes have held on for a thrilling 23-19 win over the Blues at Eden Park - their first victory of the Super Rugby season.

The Canes have won the match, with a controversial TJ Perenara try midway through the second half effectively the difference, when the television match official ruled he had control of the ball.

Tevita Li then looked to have crossed for the Blues, only for the TMO to rule that out due to a forward pass.

The 'Canes led 15-8 at halftime after Victor Vito and Perenara scored first half tries, before George Moala closed the gap to two points soon after halftime.

But Perenara's second gave the visitors a buffer and while the Blues closed the gap through two penalties to Ihaia West, they couldn't crack some gallant 'Canes defence in the dying stages.

It's the 'Canes first win this year, while the Blues also have one win and two losses.
