The ICC has acknowledged third umpire Nigel Llong made an incorrect decision in the third test between the Black Caps and Australia in Adelaide.

Llong ruled Australian batsman Nathan Lyon not out, despite hot spot technology replays suggesting his bat clearly nicked the ball.

New Zealand Cricket complained to the ICC over the matter, and in its response the governing body says it has reviewed the decision and admitted it was incorrect.

The ICC says Llong followed the correct protocol, but made a wrong judgement.

The ICC is making no further comment at this stage.
