The Breakers have spluttered into 2016 after a 73-66 loss to the Cairns Taipans in the ANBL.

In a repeat of last season's grand final match up, the Breakers failed to get out of second gear on offence and have now dropped their win/loss record to 11-7 for the season.

The Breakers shot 39 percent from the floor and registered just nine points in the second quarter.

Guard Corey Webster poured in 24 points, but struggled from the field, hitting 9 of 24 shots.

The Breakers were without Tom Abercrombie who flew home before tip off due to personal reasons.

It's the sixth straight game the Breakers have lost without the Tall Blacks swingman.
