Shane Jurgensen is hoping to land a fulltime role with the Black Caps.

The former Australian first class cricketer has been appointed New Zealand's bowling coach in an interim capacity.

He'll take on the role for the upcoming World Twenty20 and the tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa later in the year.

Jurgensen held the role from 2008 and 2010 and says there's an opportunity for it to become permanent this time around.

"I'd certainly express an interest, definitely. So that's my goal, that's my plan to come in and work hard and do the best I can and get the players ready."

He replaces Dimitri Mascharenas who is standing down to spend more time with his family.

Jurgensen has also served as head coach of Bangladesh and is currently the head coach of Fiji.
