From near oblivion to an All Blacks call-up.

Pauliasi Manu is on his way to the UK as a potential replacement for injured prop Wyatt Crockett, just three years after his career was in limbo.

Manu was without a job at the end of 2012 when the Melbourne Rebels tore up a two-year deal over worries about a previous neck injury.

Fortunately the Chiefs came to the rescue and former assistant coach Tom Coventry says it proved to be a masterstroke.

"He was written off by the Rebels when he went over to sign there and we picked him up on the chance that they've misdiagnosed his neck injury, he's been marvellous for the Chiefs."

Tom Coventry is now the head coach at Premiership side London Irish, whose training facilities the All Blacks are using this week.
