As Nathan McCullum returns to the cricket field after a month long injury setback, he's happy his World Twenty20 selection is not in jeopardy.

The Black Caps spinner has mostly shaken off a knee and back injury to play for Otago in their final Ford Trophy round robin match against Wellington tomorrow.

He was sidelined for a month with two bulging discs and two inflamed facet joints in his back, as well as strained ligaments in his knee.

McCullum says old age is catching up on him.

"It's not one hundred percent yet but we're getting there...The back is settled down now."

McCullum says he's been in constant communication with Black Caps coach Mike Hesson and national selector Gavin Larsen.

"The selectors know what I can do and what I've done for the last few years for New Zealand and probably more so in the T20 format."

McCullum will retire from international cricket at the end of this summer.
