With very few fit senior players to turn to, Sir Gordon Tietjens has named Liam Messam as the All Blacks Sevens captain for this weekend's tournament in Singapore.

In his fourth World Series tournament since returning to Sevens, Messam has been given the captaincy role with Scott Curry, Tim Mikkelson, Sam Dickson and DJ Forbes all unavailable.

Messam has captained the New Zealand sevens side before, first taking the reigns in 2004 at the age of 20.

Debutant Isaac Te Aute Dylan Collier, Antonio Kiri Kiri, Josh Van Lieshout and Teddy Stanaway come into the squad having missed the tournament in Hong Kong.
