New Zealand Rugby League's departing boss believes the organisation is in healthy shape as he prepares to exit.

Chief executive Phil Holden's announced his resignation for family reasons and will leave in the new year.

Holden says they have earned some extra funding from High Performance Sport New Zealand, while their relationship with their Australian counterparts is looking promising.

He says he's very confident the organisation will be in a good place for the future, along with the 2017 World Cup to come.

The NZRL will launch a public search to replace Holden, while CFO Alex Hayton will take on the role on an interim basis.
