A learning experience for Team Parker.

Joseph Parker has revealed the toll his recent 12-week training camp took on his body, which limited both his attack and defence in his points victory over Carlos Takam.

He aggravated an elbow problem, which has been offered as a reason why his jab wasn't prevalent and why his hands hung so low on defence.

Parker said the camp was too long and he took too much punishment. He said his body crashed in week eight and he hit rock bottom.

Trainer Kevin Barry said they're unlikely to have a 12-week camp again and if they do, they'll do it differently.

Barry said he'd have more yoga, massage and swimming than boxing training.

Joseph Parker will leave for a two-week holiday tomorrow, before rejoining Kevin Barry in Las Vegas to prepare for his next bout against Solomon Haumono in Christchurch in July.
