Wellington Phoenix players are backing Australian fans boycotting their teams A-League matches.

A number of supporters groups from around the league won't attend games this weekend in protest of the handling of fan privacy breaches by the FFA.

Phoenix captain Andrew Durante said they agree with what the fans stand for.

"100%, we support the fans, without the fans we're nothing. We'd be playing in front of empty stadiums, so we understand that and we fully support them."

But, Durante is calling on Phoenix fans not to follow suit, as the club needs as many fans attending as it fights for a license extension.

"We're a bit different to the other clubs in terms of our license, we're really pushing for that, and one of our metrics is to get numbers at the stadium to watch us."

"So we really need as many people as possible to get to the games, we can't afford to be boycotting any games."

Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick said it's fairly urgent to get things resolved.

"I don't have a go at anyone specifically, I'd just say that there's a few issues to be resolved, and the sooner the better."

"It's a good league, a strong league, we've got good clubs, we just have to get the fans on board."

Phoenix defender Ben Sigmund has passed his latest concussion test, and will likely come off the bench for Saturday's match against Melbourne Victory in North Harbour.
