A win to savour for the Wellington Phoenix.

They've hammered Adelaide United 4-2 in their first home A-League game since Football Federation Australia denied their application for a 10-year licence extension.

In a hugely entertaining match, the Phoenix trailed after just three minutes, before Roy Krishna levelled the scores less than a minute later.

Roly Bonevacia then gave the hosts the lead just after the 20 minute mark, when he cooly placed his finish into the back of the net.

But, the best of his goals came with an absolute screamer from 25 yards early in the second half, when he rifled the ball into the top corner, sending the more than 13-thousand strong crowd into hysterics in the capital.

The Phoenix then put the result beyond doubt with a tap in from Matthew Ridenton midway through the second spell, with Adelaide's other goal a consolation in the dying stages.

It's the Phoenix's third win of the season and has them third on the ladder for the time being.
