The Wellington Phoenix have had their A-League license extended by ten years.

After months of uncertainty, the club has been handed an immediate four-year licence extension, with two further three-year extensions dependent on a number of factors, especially improved broadcast rights from New Zealand.

Phoenix chairman Rob Morrison said it's a massive relief and they're "delighted".

"It's taken a while and we understand that there's a degree of frustration, particularly with the fans, but it's worth waiting for. It gives us certainty which is really what we needed."

Morrison acknowledges there's plenty of work to be done including building crowd and viewership numbers.

Football Federation Australia boss David Gallop says both parties are satisfied with the conditions moving forward.

"The fact that we've reached agreement shows the Wellington Phoenix think they're appropriate as well, appropriate for dealing with the unique set of circumstances that this club has in this competition."
