Battered mixed martial arts star Ronda Rousey has revealed the physical and emotional damage her surprise defeat to Holly Holm caused.

Rousey's brutal UFC 193 defeat in Melbourne last month grabbed world wide attention. The 28-year-old has told ESPN that she was "really f***** sad" at suffering her first loss and it could be "three to six months before I can eat an apple, let alone taken an impact."

Bantamweight Rousey was knocked out in the second round by a Holm kick to her head and some of her teeth are still unstable.

The UFC believes Rousey's profile is even bigger since the loss and predicts a re-match with Holm will take place, although boss Dana White says there is no time pressure on her to return to the ring.

Rousey also has Hollywood film projects in the pipeline.
