New Zealand Rugby has confirmed Wayne Smith has recommitted to the All Blacks for two more years.

Smith, who rejoined the All Blacks last year, took a break over summer but will return with an expanded role.

He will continue to focus on defence and turnover attack and also work on skills coaching, together with assistant coach Ian Foster, following the departure of Mick Byrne.

Smith said it's a fantastic challenge.

"Yeah I'm really fired up for it. I'm looking forward to it, working with essentially what's going to be a new team."
