Central Districts has cruised to the domestic one-day cricket title.

The Stags have thrashed Canterbury by 156 runs in the final in New Plymouth, dismissing the visitors for 249 in the 38th over.

Chasing a record 406 to win, Canterbury was always behind the run rate, despite giving itself a chance when Todd Astle and Andrew Ellis put on 121 for the fourth wicket.

But Astle's wicket effectively ended Canterbury's chances and when Ellis was gone for 101 it had handed Central the title.

Earlier, the Stags equalled the highest 50-over score at Pukekura Park in posting 405 for six from their 50 overs.

George Worker led them to victory with a mammoth 159 while Tom Bruce smashed 71 off just 23 balls, including seven sixes.
