Steven Adams has apologised for calling his opponents "monkeys" in a post-match interview.

The Oklahoma City Thunder centre described Golden State Warriors guards Steph Curry and Klay Thompson as "quick little monkeys" in an interview immediately after his team's 108-102 win in game one of the NBA's Western Conference Finals..

Adams said he didn't know it was going to upset anyone and is truly sorry - adding it was just a poor choice of words and he was just trying to express how difficult it was chasing those guys around.

He's told 'USA Today Sports' that differences in the use of language between New Zealand and his new home led to the poor choice of words.
