A superb start to the Masters for Kiwi golfer Danny Lee.

Lee's carded a four-under par 68 opening round, which has him in a tie for second, two shots off clubhouse leader Jordan Spieth.

Danny Lee's tied with Shane Lowry who's four-under through 13 holes.

Jordan Spieth said it's one of the best rounds he's ever played in windy conditions.

"I didn't feel like I had very good control with my iron swings today, but I put a couple good ones on it on 13 and 18, and then the one's that were missed were missed in locations where I could make par at worst."
