Canada has shut the door on the New Zealand men's basketball team qualifying for the Rio Olympics.

The Tall Blacks have gone down 78-72 to Canada in the semi-finals of the Olympic qualifying tournament in Manila.

Corey Webster hit 21 points for the Tall Blacks, who were forced to play most of the game without forward Isaac Fotu who suffered an early calf injury.

Coach Paul Henare laudedhis team's performance despite the result, saying his side worked hard both in the game and for the last few weeks in preparation.
