Coach Todd Blackadder has brought in three Crusaders veterans for Friday night's match with the Highlanders in Dunedin.

The rotation policy in the second row sees Luke Romano join Sam Whitelock in the run on side with Scott Barrett in the reserves.

Blackadder has also returned prop Owen Franks and halfback Andy Ellis to the starting line up for the southern derby.

He said Franks has been playing so well this year and he and Ellis bring great levels of experience to side.

Blackadder said he's staying with David Havili at second five to utilise Ryan Crotty in the final stanza of the game.

He believes the final 20 to 30 minutes is where the real pressure will be and it will be up to Crotty to come on and show all of his experience.
