A dominant first half in torrid conditions has guided the Crusaders to a comprehensive 29-10 win over the Waratahs in Christchurch.

Johnny McNicholl, Israel Dagg and Richie Mo'unga scored first half tries for the red and blacks, before Jordan Taufua added another in the second half.

Halfback Andy Ellis brought up his 150th match for the Crusaders and says they adapted to what was presented.

He says it was tough in the rain but mixed defense and attack well to be able to constantly apply pressure

"It was awesome," Ellis said. "I was really proud of the way the boys bounced from last week. It was a tough old game and we'd been on edge all week, we just really fronted."

Former Crusader Zac Guildford denied his old side a bonus point, dotting down for the Waratahs in the second spell.
