All Blacks forward Victor Vito is leaving New Zealand rugby at the end of the Super Rugby season.

Vito's signed a three-year deal with French Top 14 club La Rochelle.

He says the time has come for a fresh challenge and he's excited about the next chapter.

Vito says it's been a roller coaster for him in the All Blacks being in and out of the side for the past six seasons and he doesn't believe he was mentally ready for that level until 2014.

But, he believes he's grown over the last two years and has thanked All Blacks coach Steve Hansen for persevering with him.

Vito's played 33 tests for the All Blacks since making his debut in 2010 and was a part of both the World Cup winning squads in 2011 and 2015.
